2025 Election

In 2025, New Jersey will elect a new governor. A total of 10 candidates are currently vying for the state's highest office, six of them Democrats. On this page, we will be providing periodic updates about this and other elections. To date, the Democratic candidates and Republican candidates have held separate debates.   

Here is an alphabetical list of six Democrats declared as candidates as well as information about them.

Ras Baraka – Mayor, Newark

Steve Fulop – Mayor, Jersey City

Josh Gottheimer – Representative from New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District

Mikie Sherrill -- Representative from New Jersey’s 11th Congressional district

Sean Spiller -- NJ Education Association president, former mayor of Montclair

Steve Sweeney – Former State Senate president
